To create the Moana costume, you'll need the following materials and components: A white T-shirt for your child (or adult), blue leggings or shorts, and skirt, along with additional pieces such as headband and shell necklace. Your child will require a long black or dark brown wig in order to become Moana, and should cover their entire head.
Pretty Homemade Crocheted Moana Costume
Cut enough off-white broadcloth to fold down into two tiers and wrap around waist and tie. Download and print our triangle template onto card stock. Cut out to make a stencil. Trace the stencil along the top and bottom of the broadcloth, with the point always facing outward, and cut out. Fold one edge over to create the top tier of the skirt.

For my Tefiti and Hub's Kakamora, we decided to do a couple of Moana costume DIYs to keep from spending big bucks on cosplay quality outfits. For Hubs' DIY Kakamora costume, I used the tutorial in the video below.

Use the hem tape right under the fold of the skirt to keep it flat. Using brown and orange markers, add the embroidery details to the Moana costume skirt. To make the flower pieces, cut a template out of paper and then trace it on the drop cloth with the orange marker. Add a bunch of dashed lines to fill in the flower.
