A Sd.Kfz.231 (8-rad) armored car, developed in the 1930s. Overall capabilities were to be increased, and it was designed with tropical environments in mind. Armament was to be a 2 cm KwK 38, although a number of weapons would be used.

From the limited photos available so far, the factory-applied 3-colour scheme used on the Sd.Kfz.234/4 would appear quite uniform. The Sonderkraftfahrzeug or Sd.Kfz. 234 Panzerspähwagen was an improved version of the earlier Sd.Kfz. 231. The development began in 1940, and the 234/4 was the last of the Sd.Kfz. 234 variants. It housed a 75 mm PaK 40/46 gun and an MG 42 in an open-topped superstructure.

The Sd.Kfz.234/4 was a final attempt to provide troops with mobile anti-tank gun in an attempt to improve the desperate war Situation in December of 1944. Sd.Kfz.234/4 was based on Sd.Kfz.234/3 with modified superstructure and armed with 75mm Pak 40 L/46 anti-tank gun with limited traverse and elevation. Only 36 rounds of ammunition were stored.

The inside of the Sd.Kfz. 234/4 was crammed enough without an extra, redundant steering wheel and seat in the middle of the fighting compartment, so this would make some sense. On the other hand, the Sd.Kfz. 234/4 in the Patton Museum definitely has a rear driving station. As the /4 replaced the /3 on the production line somewhat hurriedly.
